30 Days of Concept Sketches
In March 2024, I put together a moodboard and concept sketch once a day for 30 days. My project focused on research and clearly conveying an idea, rather than producing a finished product. Each subject –– a themed storefront based on existing IP –– included concepts for an exterior, interior, signage, window display, and merchandise.

Babel Books & Vaults
A bookstore and study lounge, with a rare books collection on display in the third-floor tower. Access requires a reservation.
Based on R. F. Kuang's novel Babel: The Necessity of Violence (2022).
The Oasis
The massive warehouse is home to both a classic games arcade and a digital e-sports lounge. Announcements for upcoming tournaments can be found on the public notice boards.
Based on Ernest Cline's novel Ready Player One (2011).
Kiki's Parcel Post
Half post office and half stationary store, the Post services all paper-related needs. The windows sport a custom mural of Kiki's cat Jojo chasing down wayward mail.
Based on Hayao Miyazaki's film Kiki's Delivery Service (1989).
Home Sweet Home
An open-air warehouse that houses a sweets & desserts fair. Some classic stalls stay the same, while others are rented out seasonally.
Based on Eleanor Abbot's board game Candyland (1948).
The Mansion Club
The Mansion Club features a nighttime golf course and a bar lounge inspired by the 1920s. The flag is marked by a glowing green lamp, and the bar is accented in gold everything.
Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby (1925).

The Honeypot Hollow
A daycare for children, the Hollow is decorated to resemble the Hundred-Acre Woods. Each room is supposed to be cozy, inviting, and warm.
Based on A. A. Milne's children's book Winnie-the-Pooh (1926).
Process
I researched and combined photo references to sketch over, adjusting when necessary to fit my vision.
After finalizing the sketch, I added moodboards that would more clearly show the concept. Factors I considered included textures, patterns, textiles, fabrics, colors, typography, space, shapes, lighting types, material finishes, decorative accents, plants, and florals.
Reflection
This project was rounded out by a final case study outlining my process, experience, and influences. Finding that extra 30 minutes to an hour every day was difficult, but I'm glad I was able to make it through all the way.
My biggest takeaway was learning how to get over the need for everything to be perfect and polished. I was able to focus on communicating an idea clearly, and the time constraint forced me to start on work without second guessing myself or getting stuck in the research phase.
With more time, I would have loved to flesh out more custom type and polish the sketches for better comprehension.
